Crazy Rock Structures at Seaport Village in San Diego

8 09 2010

While walking around Seaport Village we spotted these rock structures. The rocks are NOT glued together. They are balanced on each other by using tiny pieces of rock at the base of each rock to help stabilize them – however once they get a few rocks on top of each other the placement of another rock become as very “delicate” process. I talked to one of the artists and the very real risk is that if one structure fails…it’s easy to topple over the one next to it. According to him, they try to keep young children away from them (since it’s very tempting to touch them to “test” them out), but on occasion a disaster does happen.

These rock are held together by patience, not glue!
