The Dana Point “fleet”

26 04 2010

This shot of the sportfishing/touring fleet in Dana Point was taken about half an hour before sunset. This was a 7 exposure composition so that I could capture all of the detail at the scene. If I exposed for the beautiful sunset the fleet was in complete shadow. When I exposed to see the detail in the boats, the sunset was “blown out.” By combining the exposure in my HDR software I was able to be the best dynamic color range of all elements.

By the way, the “Proud Mary” a Dana Point Harbor eatery, which is located just on the other side of the fleet has reopened – they suffered a bad fire about a two years ago. Food is better than ever and the new building is very nice (patio is great). If you want to go out sportfishing and whale watching this is an area you need to check out.

The vessel at the far right in the photo is the Catalina Express – best way (in my opinion) to spend “quality-time” on the beautiful Island.
